FOREWORD Having produced two volumes that deal with Stafleet ships, we've turned our attention to the most significant 'alien' race in STAR TREK: the Klingons. Moore and Ira Steven Behr have played important roles in guiding the Klingons into the 24th century, and Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller gave them new life in the 23rd. More than anyone, we'd like to thank Gene Roddenberry and Matt Jefferies for laying the foundations for everything that followed. We'd like to thank our friends at CBS Consumer Products: Risa Kessler, Marian Cordry and John Van Citters. William Budge provided invaluable assistance when it came to establishing the lengths of the Klingon ships from STAR TREK: DISCOVERY.When it came to tracking down the appearances of different classes of ship, the website Ex Astris Scientia was an invaluable resource. We'd like to thank all the VFX supervisors and producers whose role in creating the final ships is often overlooked. We'd also like to thank Rob Bonchune and Adam 'Mojo' Lebowitz, who not only introduced us to Ed and Fabio, but also created many of the renders you will find inside this book. Sadly we don't always know the names of everyone involved, but we know that particular thanks are due to Pierre Drolet, Brandon MacDougall and Koji Kuramura. We'd especially like to acknowledge the work of the modellers at the CG companies. Before that Greg Jein, Bill George, and Tony Meininger's Brazil Fabrications were responsible for many of the physical models, which were recreated by our own talented CG modellers Fabio Passaro and Ed Giddings. In particular we'd like to acknowledge the work of Foundation Imaging, Digital Muse, Eden FX and Pixomondo who created many of the CG models that fill the pages of this book. The K'vort-class is fitted with 4 disruptor cannons, 2 photon torpedo launchers and a cloaking device.ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This book would not have been possible without all of the writers, producers, production designers, concept artists and modelers (both traditional and CG) who have worked on STAR TREK over the years. While not the most heavily armed or armored vessel in the Klingon Defense Force, its speed, maneuverability and utility have secured this class’ place in the fighting force for centuries to come. Most notably among the conflicts were the Cardassian War, the Klingon Civil War, the short lived Federation-Klingon War, and the Dominion War. Since the K’Vort-class’ introduction, it has served in several major confrontations in the service of the Klingon Empire. ( ST reference: Starship Spotter)ĭespite its success, the class began to fall into obscurity towards the end of the 24th century following the introduction of more advanced cruisers such as the Vor'cha-class. The K'vort-class was developed out of the highly successful B'rel class, and is essentially just a much larger version of the same design. It was a variation of the B'rel class bird of prey. ( DS9 episodes: " Shattered Mirror", " The Emperor's New Cloak" CCG set: Mirror, Mirror) By the 2370s, the K'Vort was one of the most common and expendable vessels in Regent Worf's fleet. The K'Vort was similarly used as a patrol and pursuit craft in the mirror universe, by the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. ![]() The K'vort class (or K'Vort-class) was a type of Klingon bird-of-prey light cruiser starship in Imperial Defense Force service in the 24th century.
